Have you been inspired by a project that you have seen on another site? We saw these eggs last year on hello, Wonderful and wanted to give them a try! We tried out a few different techniques, and what makes this process attractive is that you could use any painting process based on your child’s age, abilities or interests! Kids seem to be fascinated by any change of size- teeny tiny items and those that are huge. They received a gigantic Bunny card and wanted to make big Easter egg cards! http://www.hellowonderful.co/post/MAKE-MODERN-CARDBOARD-EASTER-EGGS Materials Thicker paper (cardstock etc. The kids ended up using bigger paper than what was shown.) Scissors Painting supplies (You could use sponges, lids, kitchen tools- like a potato masher etc. Anything you like- even finger painting!) Paint Tape (we used painter’s tape, but you could use masking tape, washi tape etc.) We always find these items helpful too: Smock Craft tray Directions Cut out your egg shape. Our son’s trick is to cut an oval and then to shape the top. Tape lines or designs onto your egg, anchoring them to your tray or painting surface. Don your smock. Paint with any technique you like. We tried using sponges and then finger painting. As you can see on hello, Wonderful’s site, they used brushes which would allow for more sophisticated designs for older children. We removed the tape while the paint was still wet so as to prevent it adhering too much. One might require parental assistance with this portion of the project. Allow your work to dry and then write on the back! Purpose Learning what a resist is and ways to create one. Celebrating various holidays and recognizing the symbols that are often associated with them. Creating meaningful opportunities for writing. Safety Notes We suggest that you wear a smock and use a craft tray to protect your clothing and surfaces. Use scissors with care and adult supervision.
