Materials

Make a simple and durable name tag- perfect for art groups, camp, back-to-school etc.

  • Wooden ornaments (We bought these after Christmas when they were significantly marked down.  The wood discs with two holes were purchased at a craft store and are available all year round.)
  • Beads
  • Laces (You can find these at craft and educational stores)
  • Letter stamps
  • Stamp pads
  • Magnetic clasps (*Recommended if you are doing this project with younger children)

  • Smock
  • Craft tray

Directions

  • Don your smock.  Stamp the letters of your name onto your ornament.  Allow to dry.  Flip and do the other side as well.

  • Chose your lace and beads.  If you don’t have lace, you could use any type of cord, with a plastic needle.  Lace one end through the hole of your ornament.  We then put both ends of the lace through the beads (you may need to do one at a time) through each of the beads.

  • Tie a knot at the end and wear!  (For younger children we suggest you attach a magnetic clasp, rather than knotting so it could detach if needed.)

Purpose

  • Creating a community by leanring/ knowing each person’s name.

Safety Notes

  • We suggest that you wear a smock and use a craft tray to protect your clothing and surfaces.
  • Use non-toxic stamp pads.
  • Cord, yarn etc. can be a strangulation hazard, therefore, be sure to use with direct supervision and for its intended purpose.
  • Beads can be a choking hazard therefore be sure to keep them out of the reach of children ages 0-3 years of age or those that tend to put things into their mouths.
  • We recommend attaching a magnetic clasp to the ends of your lace so that it could easily detach and removing your name tag for physical activity to prevent injury.
